Geology and Star Trek

Today I saw the new Star Trek movie with my brother, mom and my elder sister. It was an entertaining movie. I remembered my father describing the formation of the earth and explaining how the Himalayan mountain ranges were formed from the ocean. It was so beautiful a concept, and he would show how these can be deduced from the type of rock formations.
